Detroit Tigers
Jon pitched one pretty terrific season in the Major Leagues. Although his Big League career was shortened by a nasty rotator cuff injury, Jon accomplished a ton in a short time. In 1968, pitching for the Detroit Tigers he earned a World Series ring. That same season, pitching with two of the great pitchers of his era, Micky Lolich (three wins in World Series) and Denny McLain (31-6), Jon reached 3 wins before anyone else in all of baseball!
And on one glorious night, brought in from the bullpen to quell a 2 out, bases loaded rally, he faced the legendary Mickey Mantle in front of 50,000 New York fans. With one wicked slider, he got the Mick to reach and ground into an inning ending grounder to the shortshop. Talk about living the dream!
Jon does lot of media work, specializing in working with many Major Leagues associations. His stock in trade is inspiring through humor. Some say is the new clown prince of baseball. We are truly pleased to have this outsized heart and personality on our Fields of Green Team!
